If you’re serious about food blogging, then you want to design a blog that is attractive, easy on the eyes and makes your blog easy to navigate. A theme is a collection of files that work together to produce a graphical interface to unify a design for your blog. It has become increasingly easier to build a blog now. There are literally thousands of themes available for wordpress that allow you to create gorgeous blogs in no time at all. There are also a lot of free themes for wordpress. There are literally thousands of free themes, so this is another option for you in case you do not want to spend any money up front. If later on your blog starts earning you an income you could always switch to another theme. That’s what’s great about starting a blog, there are a lot of choices, and you can literally do it for no money at all.
Up until recently I’ve been using Themeforest but a few months ago I switched to StudioPress Themes for WordPress which was a big decision for us because we wanted to buy the entire collection of themes and the genesis framework which costs $349. Looking back it was probably one of the best decisions we made regarding our websites. Before I go any further, I want you to know that you do not need to buy the entire thing, if you find a theme you like for you blog it’s only $79 including the genesis framework. We have probably spent more than that buying individual themes from Themeforest. The good thing about purchasing a StudioPress theme is that it is fully supported, you have access to their forum and can ask your questions, you automatically get all the updates and the biggest advantage is that StudioPress themes are one of the best if not the best themes to use. They are very easy to use, they have videos available on how to install the themes and how to set up your blog, there’s a lot of documentation available on how to style your theme, it’s just wonderful. I highly recommend going with a professional theme. For this blog I am using eleven40 theme which I really love and it was super simple to set up. I literally had it installed and set up in minutes.
Themeforest provides thousands of themes or site templates for your blog for a very reasonable price. Most templates go for about $35 and are very good quality. I have purchased themes from them for pretty much all of our websites. They are easy to configure and customize for your own blog. Themes are what makes your blog pretty, it’s the color scheme, it’s all the little elements on your blog that makes your blog unique. It’s the design of your blog. You always have the option to hire someone to create a personalized theme for your blog, but that can be extremely expensive, and the way I see it, it’s money that you don’t need to spend when you first start your blog. By all means, once your blog becomes successful and starts earning you some income, then you could invest in a personalized theme.
The Thesis Theme for WordPress is another wonderful theme and very popular. It used to be harder to setup and install Thesis but they have recently introduced Thesis 2.0 visual design template editor which makes it easier for non technical bloggers to change every aspect of every page and every element of their blog without ever writing a single line of code. You can change how your entire theme looks or tweak specific parts of your theme with just point, click, drag and drop.
